Russia has expressed its opposition to the possibility of a no-fly zone over Syria.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in an interview with Sky News Arabia Television on August 18, said a no-fly zone would be a violation of Syria's sovereignty.

Although no member of the United Nations Security Council has proposed a no-fly zone, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said last week Washington was not ruling out the option.

Clinton's comments prompted U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta last week to say a no-fly zone over Syria was not a "front-burner" issue.

Syrian rebels have repeatedly called for a no-fly zone over the country to protect them from escalating government air strikes.

The idea that U.S. can order a no fly zone over someone else's country is really approaching a level of international dictatorship by US that is someting so obviously contrary to the Ameircan idea of liberty that one has to wonder what level of international tyrrany is someone attempting to promote here.

Actually what the Assad government is doing is against the American ideal of liberty.
Also note that the US wants a UN resolution on a no fly zone.
Normal people should also be disgusted by Russian hypocrisy in this regard, seeing what it does to its own people and the force it uses, without any resolutions at all, against its former imperial possessions. Along with the usual Russian tactics of crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing.
