The conflict in Syria and Iran's controversial nuclear program dominated the agenda as Russian President Vladimir Putin began a visit to Israel.

Upon his arrival on June 25, Putin joined President Simon Peres at a ceremony to inaugurate a memorial in the coastal town of Netanya marking the victory of the Soviet Red Army over Nazi Germany in World War II.

During the ceremony, Peres said: "I am confident that Russia, which defeated fascism, will not allow similar threats today. Not the Iranian threat. Not the bloodshed in Syria."

Later in the day, Putin met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

After the talks, the Russian president said they discussed Iran's nuclear program and the situation in Syria "in great detail."

He said he saw negotiations as the only solution for Iranian and Syrian issues.

"From the very beginning of the so-called Arab Spring, Russia has consistently tried to convince our partners that democratic change must take place in a civilized manner and without outside intervention," he said.

Netanyahu also reiterated Israel's main demands on the Iranian issue.

"The international community has to present three clear demands to Iran: the cessation of uranium enrichment in Iran, removing all of the already enriched uranium from Iran, and dismantling the underground nuclear facility near Qom," he said.

"Thus, I believe two things must be done now: strengthening the sanctions and also boosting the demands."

On June 26, the Russian president is to open a Russian cultural and science center in the West Bank town of Bethlehem before leaving for Jordan.

Putin last visited Israel in 2005 in what was the first official visit by a Russian president to the Jewish state.

On the eve of the visit, Putin's top foreign policy aide, Yury Ushakov, said the tour is aimed at highlighting "the importance of this region for [Russia] and is designed to further strengthen Russia's position here."

Israel and its Western allies have been urging tougher sanctions against the Islamic republic over its refusal to halt uranium enrichment, a process that can be directed to make both reactor fuel and nuclear warheads.

Israel has said Iran's potential possession of a nuclear weapon would mark an existential threat to the Jewish-led state, and has refused to rule out a military strike targeting Iranian nuclear facilities.

Iran denies making any effort to develop an atomic weapon.

Russia has backed four previous rounds of United Nations Security Council sanctions against Iran but has joined with China in resisting further measures.

Talks earlier this month in Moscow between Iran and six world powers, including Russia, failed to result in a breakthrough.

Russia and Western nations are also at loggerheads over the conflict in Syria. The Syrian regime was a Soviet-era Russian ally in the Middle East and remains a major buyer of Russian weapons.

Russia, along with China has twice blocked UN Security Council resolutions threatening sanctions against Syria, where President Bashar al-Assad's violent crackdown on the opposition has left an estimated 15,000 people dead since March 2011.

It has rejected calls for Assad to step down and is categorically opposed to outside intervention.

Russia is pushing for an international conference on Syria that would bring together the five UN Security Council members and Syria's regional neighbors.

Putin was also expected to discuss the stalled peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians in his talks with Israeli leaders on June 25 and with Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas in the West Bank the following day.

The Mideast Quartet -- which brings together  the United States, United Nations, European Union, and Russia -- has sought to revive the talks, which have been stalled since September 2010.

Iran is only Israel's current fixation. America's entire electoral system has been corrupted by Netanyahu's Israel, AIPAC, Israel Firsters and ingenious distribution of enormous amounts of Jewish money. Our representative democracy is nearly defeated and the destruction of America as we know it well underway. Termination of the criminal treachery and treason demands immediate priority. The Government of the United States must again serve American interests, not the Jewish state's relentless pursuit of invulnerability, territorial conquest and apartheid supremacist empire in, and beyond, the Mideast.

excellent comment, John. There should be a law in this country making unduly immoral influence on government policies a criminal offence. This country is subjugated by the ruling mafia, all media channels are controlled by the same mafia, which pushes self-destructive and criminal agenda and indoctrinates and brainwashes American people. That's how 70% of American people ended up approving murder of Christians in Kosovo and supporting Muslim Kosovo Liberation Army which US government itself designated a terrorist organization. This is how 70% of Americans ended up thinking Iran is America's enemy and Israel and Saudi Arabia are "friends"

However did we get it all so backwards? As a signatory to the Non Proliferation Treaty, Iran has the right to develop and implement nuclear technology. Israel rejected the NPT and has no such right. Yet, the Jewish state has ICBM nukes and openly threatens Iran; actually campaigns for war against Iran. Israel, not Iran, should be sanctioned and forced to reveal its nuclear machinations to IAEA inspection. However did we get it all so backwards?

A very good point, John, nice to see that even some people in the US are noticing how absurd the official policy line of the US is.

Konstantin, thanks very much for using my name to post your insightful comments. I must note that US people are mostly OK but their government is backward and Zionist and their cities are full of gay bathhouses, which used to appeal to me but I'm no longer into that.

Konstantin is retarded elderly "republic of Georgian" living on foodstamps in LA subsidized housing complex. Other day he complained about x-Soviet Jews living in the same apartment building which he claimed are "corrupting" him and other "republic of Georgians". I doubt Konstantin is able to pull off more than his incoherent toomba-yumba "verses". For that role I nominate one of those Homo Sovieticuses "Ivan" or "Ilya". One of those (or both) steal Eugenio's and my names. It is quite probable "Ivan from California" and "Ilya" share the same appartment building with Konstantin, parasiting on American taxpayers.

Obama has helped to engineer the Muslim Brotherhood's takeover of Libia, Egypt, and soon Syria all for future control by Iran, as well as handing Iraq to Iran also. Why? Obama's roots are Islam, his training under communist Frank Marshall Davis (probably his dad) as well as his mother who is an anti-colonialist, anti-capitalist, anti-American exceptionalist and communist. Why you ask did he get to be President as an illegal also (everything forged, can't even pass e-verify - see sheriff Joe, Breitmeyer, Orly Taitz, Alex Jones, Obama's attorney Hill in NJ court case, etc.) because liberals are brainless. If BiBi and Putin want an easy way out just effectively help get through a US court, to discovery process, (many cases already filed are being blocked by Obama) the PROVEN evidence of Obama's forged Birth certificates and selective service number and stolen social security number, and not only Obama and Biden but accomplices Reid, Pelosi, Both Clintons, etc. will be in Jail, and Boehner will be interim president until Mitt in Jan. Israel can de-head Iranian leadership with Boehner's help and help the Iranian people elect a secular leader and help Egypt's military stay in power until a secular president can be elected in Egypt. Boehner would Switch Ex-Obma's support in Syria to non-MB rebels. The US could save itself a grid and bio strike, an Obama martial law and Obama's inner-city millions of loyals for his domestic security force marauding the countryside under guise of offering vaccine (or optionally a quarantine camp). and even elections would be preserved.

Soviet Red Army can hold it's head held high in honor for eternity for their ruthless prosecution of Nazi war criminals at Auschwitz.
