The Investigative Committee of the Russian Prosecutor-General's Office has decided to take over the reportedly stalled investigation into the death of a journalist in the Daghestan region of the troubled North Caucasus.

Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin told journalists that the decision was made in reaction to a request by about 100 deputies of the Russian parliament's lower chamber, the State Duma, that federal investigators take charge of the probe.

Prominent Daghestani independent journalist Khadzhimurad Kamalov was shot dead in the Daghestani capital, Makhachkala, in December 2011.

Kamalov's independent Russia-language weekly, "Chernovik," was known for covering North Caucasus politics and local government corruption issues.

Do not worry the West will give the medal _posthumously_ to one of the FSB agents working under cover as human rights defender, like Lyudmila Alekseeva, for his work.
One of the examples: http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2009/dec/133356.htm

Good citations M, but you have not shown how receiving an award for "defending human rights and democracy" makes the man an FSB agent - can you give any evidence to support this claim, or is it just word-of-mouth in Ingushetia?

Not only in Ingushetia, in Russia too. You see in Ingushetia we all know each other, know the connections, and the news like that spread fast. If you re-examine the words you skimmed you will see that without my help: "The prize had been awarded by the US State Department yet in December 2009; however, the events were conducted in the United States. And now, finally, the award reached Russia and was handed in Moscow. It was planned that the award should be handed to the family members of the murdered human rights defender, but, since they failed to come to the event __for some reasons__ [reason_S_?], the award was given to Lyudmila Alekseeva, a colleague of Maksharip Aushev"

Few points to notice: Maksharip Aushev never said he had __the colleague__ named Lyudmila Alekseeva. His only colleague who was also murdered was Magomed Yevloev. Relatives of murdered Aushev could come to Moscow without any problem to receive the award but they could've said something to American counterparts, which would not please the regime. That is why the old mole from the service, which is trusted by the Western services, was used. Other peoples know about her as well:

P.S. KGB defector colonel Preobrazhensky made it all clear as well. Also, can you name me one “dissident” who was critical toward the KGB, the FSB, still alive, and the only punishment was the removal from the Communist Party?

Hello Anonymous, an interesting point but M provides us with insight into what is going on in his part of the globe - we are not the same person.

Hello King, if you don't want M dominating the commentary from the Caucasus region then I look forward to more of your comments here, as long as they do not personally attack other people or nations. RFERL is your opportunity to communicate your ideas with people on the other side of the world, and it is best to speak with a wider view.

Well M, this has certainly opened up a guessing game of "Who's who?" on this page. However, the issue remains the one that you have raised and there appears to be no denial by other contributors.
