Suspected Terrorists Sent To Pretrial Detention In Moscow

A court in Moscow has sent three men to pretrial detention on suspicion of plotting a terrorist attack in the Russian capital.

The Lefortovo district court ruled on October 13 that Aslan Baisultanov, Elman Ashayev, and Mokhmad Mezhidov should be held in pretrial detention without bail until at least December 12.

The chief of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), Aleksandr Bortnikov, said on October 13 that the suspects were among a group of 12 Russian citizens who were detained in Moscow on October 11.

Bortnikov alleged that Baisultanov arrived in Russia from Syria to organize a terrorist attack in Moscow.

Bortnikov said all of the detained individuals were members and supporters of the Islamic State (IS) militant group in the Middle East.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has cited the possibility of terrorist attacks by IS militants within Russia as a justification for the Kremlin’s decision to carry out air strikes in Syria.

Based on reporting by Interfax and Rapsinews.ru

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
