Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is to meet the Chinese leadership in Beijing next week and will discuss with him the situation in Ukraine.

Lavrov's April 15 visit will come two days ahead of planned four-way talks between diplomats from Ukraine, Russia, the United States, and the European Union.

The Russian Foreign Ministry on April 13 said that in meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Lavrov plans to "devote special attention to the situation in Ukraine."

The statement said "It is well-known, China sticks to a balanced and objective position, demonstrating understanding of the entire totality of factors, including historical ones, leading to new realities in the region."

China on March 27 abstained from voting as the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution condemning Crimea's referendum on joining Russia and refusing to recognize Russia's annexation of the Ukraine region.
