United States Once Again Russia's Worst Enemy

According to a poll conducted by Russia's independent Levada Center, the United States is now the country considered by the greatest number of Russians to be an enemy of their country.

Asked to list the five countries they considered to be hostile or unfriendly to Russia, 38 percent included the United States on the list, followed by Georgia at 33 percent, and the three Baltic states -- Latvia at 21 percent, Lithuania at 17 percent, and Estonia at 16 percent.

Georgia and the United States actually swapped positions from the same survey a year earlier, when Georgia led with 41 percent to Washington's 35. What's clear is how Georgia's rate of inclusion on the enemies list has slowly come down following the 2008 war with Russia over South Ossetia, from a high of 60 percent in May 2009. Georgia appears to be gradually coming to some sort of terms with its big neighbor.

The United States' rise in the poll is somewhat predictable, given the recent frostiness in relations with Moscow over the U.S. Magnitsky Act and the Russian ban on U.S. citizens from adoptions.

What's interesting, though, is that when asked for their general feeling about the United States, 51 percent responded "very good" or "generally good." This is slightly down from the 54 percent of similar responses in May of 2012 and 2011.

And which countries do Russians see as their allies? Leading in the "most friendly" hit parade for the fifth year running is Alyaksandr Lukashenka's Belarus, with a full 46 percent of respondents including it on their list. After that comes Kazakhstan, China, Ukraine, and Germany, among all of the countries.

The survey was conducted on May 23-27 from a representative sample of 1,601 people across Russia, according to the Levada Center.

US is seen as an enemy by most people in the world given US government is the major sponsor of terrorism.
RFERL in its perpertual propaganda efforts obviously won't advertise the numbers from the polls of, say, how French people feel about Big Brother the US

Jack is right as usual - the US is seen as their major enemy by just so many nations in the world, you would get tired if started counting them.
And as far as the warning to beware the PRISM is concerned, Ivan - the PRISM is intended to look for secrets, whereas the fact that the US is universally hated is not a secret to anyone :-)).

What is surprising is that Poland didn't feature in the top five of most unfriendly countries, and that Germany featured in the friendliest despite recent diplomatic spats and historical rivalry between Russia and these two nations.

What were the "recent diplomatic spats" btw Germany and Russia, Anonymous? I can not recall any. OR maybe the word "recent" is misleading: did you maybe mean the diplomatic spat around the brutal assassination of several German tourists who went on a familiarization trip to Stalingrad in 1942? :-)))

@ Eugenicide
Aren't there Russian spies on trial in Germany right now? Hasn't the Merkel government been criticizing Russian human rights violations recently? Not to mention arms sales to Syria. If there aren't any "spats" now there will be in the near future...a testament to Russia's current isolation in the world. G8=G7+1

Why did Russians not give credit to their great allies, Abkhazia and South Ossetia?

This may be off-topic, but regarding the News Quiz about the Taliban: I believe "talib" is an Arabic word, not a Pashto word.

"Talib" is indeed an Arabic word. But when the suffix of -an is added to an Arabic/Pashto/Persian word, then that word in Pashto becomes plural.

So Talib-'an' becomes a Pashto word and forms the literal meaning of 'Students of Islam...'

Russia was once a part of East Europe bases,
An ethnos created after Ace Age by top of Caucasus,
Carpathians and Ural's mountains, starting with first villages
Of advanced people coming from heart of pre-Georgian Iberia,
Joined by Carpathians in West and Ural's in Eastern areas.

Until Viking "Varaga" invaded with genocide East Europe,
Leaving alive only children of their rape, turned into Serfs,
The emerged ethnos consisted from benevolent envelope
Of trading partners and friends of sets of tribes and states.
It all changed since 9 Century part-Neanderthal race wars.

Russia is once again controlled by Varaga-Prussaka hate.
The percentages you write here about reflect it all too well.
The hate to America reflect degree of not taking over it yet
By Russia apparatchiks and the imperial resurrecting mold,
Austrian, German and British - lured, since 1954 pact year.

They still have hate to go 38% - so USA wouldn't interfere
And eventually would be reduced to big colony of empires.
Georgia they hated 60% because they are annexing there.
Only as Russia declared stage, annex and repopulate war
Grabbed 27% of Georgian land, it reduced to 33% hatred.

Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia reflect hate by percentages
Of ethnic Russia influx - softened public hate by pretense
Before British-Germanic presumed relatives, Baltic states.
About 10% Russian-like Lithuania hated more than a 40%
Estonia. Latvia had 40%, but fight if - hated most in there..

Eugenio still lie for Russia, after they got killed my mother.
Jack still like "kakado" accountant - listing Russia's scores.
USA is like in an old joke: "Husband does forever he does,
He is the head - wife is only a neck - but as the neck turns,
The imperial apparatchiks lead by Russia, so head bombs".

Sure the Snowman's revelations are nothing new, US steal,
Mostly with help of Russia information of any value from us,
Starting with arts, sciences and innovations - through a zeal
In anything we got, as business, income, medical insurance
And our bodies to make sick and murder in Russia-US care.

As for technicalities that so exciting spies in West and East,
Dancing with hate or joy, I don't care, betrayed by the beast,
Since day of my birth. Whether Snowman love Russia snow
To do it technically in that manner - can make Putin happy...

In his last statement, Putin expressed importance of relations
Between Russia and USA (between Putin and Obama wed?),
Comparing to the bickering between according spy agencies.
That probably doesn't relate to the article above, but amends,
Secretly befriending since Cold War US, for Global tyrannies,
Emerge as 1954 pact to resurrect empires - with USA in bed.

Thus, becoming Snowden, rather trade? Trade-off Liberties?
Global mafia of stealing from Humanity - property, creativity,
Life-supports and very life, repopulate all World by empires,
Like Russia. By computers, phones and communications,
And lying about it - diverting it as "only spying on friends",
As Snowden said, as US and Russia linking evil means,
Predicted at the end of Cold War by one Russian writer,
Linking both evil Empires would bring an ultimate one.

Just to say "classified" mean nothing. Russia and US
Trying all my life to brake and plagiarize me - I resist.
They don't give-up. They tried drag me to some mess:
Soviets - tell-behind-back name of some closed Cities,
I walked away. Americans - push-car out-off freeways,
Drive along fence of Northrop corporation - I got away.

What would they say behind back, to plagiarize again?
That I new "classified information"? They already do it!
My documents, if I would use published FBI cod-venom
One would read "Ran away from Federal Prison bandit,
Rocket scientists, stole classified gold - grab or kill him!"

In mother's documents one would read "trafficking gold
And human trafficking (me?) - refuse help us squeeze it
Efficiently enough - kill the problem, to rob her son bold."
It is what a NATO's "Non Lethal Weapons" operator said.
By him and John's Hospital - her memory was destroyed.

She almost died. Russia-CIA continued killing me and her.
Finally they murdered her 7-7-2012 - as part of blackmail,
For Russia, avenge my role defending CIS for many years.
For CIA, instigated by Russia and greed, plagiarize-curtain.

Long hand of Russia, Germany-Austria and Britain with US
Forged slender against us. Before mother's last poisonings,
Telepaths made her, with lost memory and speech just say:
I think I am red - She never in life thought or said the words,
Used by Russians from CIA - being Jewish, from Argentina.

In Austria your RFE Forum Eugenio was slandering the US
And threatening both USA and to kill Putin in commentaries.
After each such commentary he added that it wasn't his SS,
But I, Konstantin, wrote it under his name. CIA lied arbitrary
That I was anti-American and my mother as "red" had to die.

Both Hospitals, "Providence" and "Presvetarian", and home,
Staffed by Russian and German Nazis - CIA demanded me
Be their plagiarized slave, or they'd kill my mother - or both.
Some were using RFE lying Eugenio with accusation spray
Were familiar faces of Russians and Jews-skinheads-Brits.

Evil Empire envelops the Globe. Snowfall turn into Snowden.
Putin and Obama ignoring that evil - playing spies on a den.
