Russian armed forces have paraded in central Moscow to mark the 71st anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
The May 9 parade on Red Square featured some 10,000 army staff, about 150 vehicles, and nuclear missile systems. Dozens of aircraft also performed a flyby. The marchers included members of Russia's new National Guard.
Addressing the troops, President Vladimir Putin called for the international community to unite in the fight against terrorism.
"Russia is open to uniting forces with other states. It is ready to work on the creation of a modern, nonaligned international security system," he said.
After the parade, thousands of people participated in the so-called Immortal Regiment action, in which citizens march with portraits of their relatives who fought in the war. Among them was Putin, holding a photo of his father.
Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union in June 1941. Over the next four years, the Soviet Union lost an estimated 20 million casualties.
