New Rule For Russian Visas Comes Into Effect

The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) has issued a reminder through Russian media that a new rule for foreign tourists comes into effect as of January 26, obligating them to list the cities, towns and other inhabited areas they plan to visit while in Russia.

Russia's Federal Migration Service is also requiring proof of an invitation to visit these settlements and the name of the person or organization giving the invitation.

All types of visas must have this information on them.

ATOR has said the new requirements could hurt Russia's tourist industry.

During Soviet times, information like that required as of January 26 was mandatory for foreigners.

Based on reporting by Interfax, rg.ru, and RIA Novosti

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
