A Russian deputy foreign minister has warned that an attack on Iran could have what he described as "catastrophic" consequences for regional and possibly international relations.

The warning, by Gennady Gatilov, comes shortly after the UN nuclear watchdog expressed disappointment after its representatives' visit to Iran, saying Tehran refused to give them access to a military complex at Parchin.

The military site has been linked to Iran's nuclear program, which the West suspects is aimed at making atomic bombs. Tehran denies anything but civilian intentions for its nuclear activities.

The United States and Israel have not ruled out a military strike on Iran to resolve the crisis.

Tehran's traditional ally, Russia has helped the country build and fuel its Bushehr nuclear plant.

I hope Russia does not show too much support for Iran. I think Iran is too extremist and think they will only use their knowledge for terrorism.

Russian government is the root of all problems in the middle east. If Russia stopped meddling its hands in the region and backing up terrorists and fascist governments, everything would be normal. But they will never do this because they are at a never ending war with the west, and the prospect of oil makes things even worse.
If there will be an end of world, you can bet everything you own that Russian government will have a major hand in it.

p.s. watch out for 'jack' lol, his soviet propaganda will reach this thread any minutes now. :D

A catastrophy - yes, but for whom? Already now - after a couple of months of just TALKING about attacking Iran - the oil price (Brent) has gone up from some US $ 105 / barrel to some US $ 125 - in about 5-6 weeks only! So, if it actually comes to a real attack, what kind of price can one expect by June, for example? 150? 170? 200 $ /barrel? An any rate, this would not be a catastrophy for Vladimir Putin and Hugo Chávez :-))).
