Gunman Killed After Wounding Four At Shi'ite Hall In Saudi Arabia

A gunman opened fire at a Shi'ite house of worship in eastern Saudi Arabia on October 16, wounding four people before he was shot dead by Saudi security forces.

Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ekhbariya television channel reports the gunman was in his 20s and that his motives were unknown.

A woman was among those injured.

The attack happened at a Shi'ite Muslim meeting hall in the eastern city of Saihat.

It came two days after the start of commemorations of Ashura, one of the holiest occasions of the Shi’ite faith during the Islamic month of Muharram.

During Ashura in 2014, gunmen killed seven Shi'ite worshippers, including children, in Saudi Arabia's eastern town of Al-Dalwa.

Saudi Arabia's Interior Ministry said the suspects in the 2014 attack were linked to the Islamic State militant group.

Based on reporting by Reuters, AP, AFP, and Al-Ekhbariya TV
