Explosions Rock Kurdish Party Offices In Iraq

A suicide bombing at a Kurdish political party office has killed at least 18 people and injured some 55 in a town northeast of Baghdad.

Police said the attack occurred when a suicide bomber set off his explosive vest at the gate of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) offices in Jalula, 125 kilometers from the Iraqi capital.

After the first explosion, a car bomb exploded near the PUK offices as security forces arrived to investigate and help those injured in the initial blast.

Jalula is an ethnically mixed city in Diyala Province.

Several houses and cars were also damaged in the attack.

The PUK is led by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, who is currently being treated in Germany for health problems.

Nearly 800 Iraqis died last month, most of them victims of sectarian violence.
