A suicide bomber has struck in the western Afghan province of Herat, killing at least nine people and wounding at least 20 others, according to authorities.
Police said the dead included three Afghan security officers and six civilians.
Afghan officials said the suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into a local government compound in Guzara district, along the road from the airport to the provincial capital, Herat.
Many people were gathered outside the building at the time of the explosion.
No further details were immediately available.
Herat Province is relatively peaceful, as insurgents have concentrated their attacks in the south and east.
Security responsibilities for nearly the whole province have been transferred, or are in the process of being transferred, from NATO troops to Afghan forces.
