Security officials say at least seven Turkish soldiers have been killed and nearly 60 injured in a rocket attack on a military convoy in Turkey's southeast.
The officials blamed rebels from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, for the attack.
The convoy was travelling between the provinces of Bingol and Mus when it was hit.
The army immediately launched an operation backed by air power against the rebels.
The attack on September 18 came one day after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkish forces had killed or captured some 500 PKK rebels in the last month.
Some 45,000 people have been killed since the PKK began its armed struggle for self-rule in Turkey's southeast in 1984.
Turkey, the United States, and the European Union consider the PKK a terrorist group.
