The United States says Syrian Prime Minister Riad Hijab's carefully planned escape to Jordan with his extended family shows that Syrian President Bashad al-Assad's regime is beginning to crumble.

White House Press secretary Jay Carney said August 6 that "the Assad regime is crumbling from within" and predicted Assad's days are numbered.

France's Foreign Ministry said Hijab's defection to the Syrian rebels is evidence the regime is losing support due to "its choice of armed violence."

Hijab, a Sunni Muslim, was long a loyalist of Assad's Alawite-dominated Baath party.

But an aide who escaped with him says Hijab began planning his defection more than two months ago when Assad told him he had to either accept the prime minister's post "or get killed."

Analysts say Hijab's escape suggests a serious breakdown of security within Assad's inner regime.

the insurgents are peaceful Sunni activists sponsored by Saudi Arabia and US government. They want peace and democracy, which is why they are killing Shia Muslims and Christians

what is crumbling is the Wahhabi Sunni US-sponsored "Syrian Free Army" which has been crushed in Damascus and is about to be destroyed in Allepo. Sunnis are cowards and bad fighters which is why they cry for help from US government and its NATO minions. Sunnis are taking hostages and kill civilians but that is not important for US government because they fight for Wahhabi democracy against Christians, Alawites, Shia Muslims and other Assad loyalists

As the news of Riad Hijab’s defection was confirmed, the Qatari government news channel Al-Jazeera and other imperialist sources of mass media were in euphoria. Hijab’s defection is definitely a blow to the Syrian government, but its impact is greatly exaggerated by the mainstream media just like all other events inside Syria. Riad Hijab is a technocrat with no political weight and influence.

The ongoing battles inside Syria show that Bashar al-Assad’s government is going to make it extremely difficult for the proxy forces to continue operating and impossible to govern even if they manage to gain some territory.
