KHUJAND, Tajikistan -- A court in Tajikistan’s northern Sughd Province has given jail sentences to seven people for being members of the banned Islamist Jamoat-i Tabligh organization.

The convicts on February 23 each received between three and five years in jail. Jamoat-i Tabligh (Society for Spreading the Faith) has been officially banned in Tajikistan as an extremist group since 2006.

The members of the group do not consider themselves extremists, saying that they only propagate Islamic values and are not involved in politics.

Tthe term used in this article: "Tablig-i-Jamaat" is incorrect. You never hear this in Tajikistan. The correct term in Tajiki is: "Jamoati Tabligh". This error shows that RFE is not paying close enough attention to Tajikistan nor coordinating the writing of its articlers with its own Dushanbe bureau. They even have photos on file of Tablighi people on trial in court, which you could have used here and you did not make the effort to retrieve.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The correction has been made. Cooperation is always a challenge with all of our different language services.

Yes. You are right, Tahmina. I consider here Tajik Service is guilty. It should provide RFE/RF with the correct names of districts, regions, towns, cities, political parties etc.
