Tajik Mining Head Shot Dead

DUSHANBE -- The director of a coal mine in Tajikistan's eastern district of Rasht has been found murdered.

Tajik Interior Ministry spokesman Makhamdullo Asadulloev told RFE/RL that Nuriddin Temirov, 55, was found mortally wounded in his office at the Nazarailoq coal mine overnight. An investigator in Rasht said Temirov sustained seven gunshots, including three to his head. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died hours later.

Tajik Interior Minister Ramazon Rakhimov will oversee the investigation into Temirov's murder and has sent a group of investigators to the region.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
