Tibetan Nun Sets Herself On Fire

TEXT SIZE - +
An 18-year-old Buddhist nun has reportedly committed self-immolation in western China.

The London-based group Free Tibet said the young woman, believed to be named Tenzin Choezin, was a member of the Mamae nunnery in Aba prefecture of Sichuan Province.

Free Tibet and the International Campaign for Tibet said the woman shouted protests against the Chinese government before setting herself ablaze.

She is believed to have survived.

Police and soldiers took her away and sealed off the nunnery.

Another nun from the same nunnery committed self-immolation in October. That nun died from her injuries.

Now it`s time for the Chinese authorities to talk to the Tibetian government in exile in India. The best solution for both China and Tibet is real autonomy for the people of Tibet inside the Chinese state. The Tibetian people want religious and cultural freedom and respect for human rights.
