The trial of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev is set to begin January 5 after a U.S. court refused a last-minute attempt to delay or move the trial.
An appeals court ruled January 3 that Tsarnaev's lawyers had not offered a sufficient rationale for postponing the trial or moving it out of Boston.
Tsarnaev, 21, a naturalized U.S. citizen with roots in the Caucasus, has pleaded not guilty to charges of killing three people and injuring more than 260 after he and his older brother, Tamerlan, left backpacks stuffed with explosives near the finish line of the Boston Marathon in April 2013.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in a police shootout several days after the bombing.
The Boston bombing is considered the largest mass-casualty attack on U.S. soil since September 11, 2001.
Tsarnaev could face the death penalty if convicted.
