Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu says his country is ready to host an international conference on the Syria crisis.

Speaking to Reuters in Ankara on February 8, Davutoglu maintained that if the UN fails to act, then like-minded countries must find other ways to send a message of support to the Syrian people under attack by President Bashar al-Assad's security forces.

"If the UN Security Council does not fulfill the mission of protecting the right to life of civilians in Syria, then there must be another platform to discuss this," he said. "We cannot be just silent observers."

Meanwhile, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin warned the West against behaving "like a bull in a china shop," saying Syrians themselves should be allowed to decide their own fate.

I never understand phrases like 'Turkey calls for..." what do they mean? Who cares what they 'call for'? They decide nothing.
