An anti-smoking law, which aims to protect the public from the consequences of smoking, has come into force in Turkmenistan.
State media reported on December 26 that the law prohibits smoking in certain areas, including both public and private enterprises, institutions, organizations, restaurants, shops, cultural centers, and parks.
The law, which came into effect on December 25, also bans tobacco advertising in all forms and in all types of media, and even in shops selling tobacco products.
According to the new law, giving tobacco products as a gift is also now prohibited in Turkmenistan.
The law stipulates that the state will provide appropriate medical care to people who need treatment for tobacco-related illnesses.
