Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have traded accusations over a contested patch of oil field in the Caspian Sea.

Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry said on June 19 it was officially protesting what it called "illegal measures" by Azerbaijani border guards against a Turkmen vessel that was carrying out "research" in the disputed zone.

The statement accused Azerbaijan of "provocations" but gave no further details.

Earlier, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry summoned the Turkmen ambassador to Baku to warn against what the ministry described as Turkmen attempts to explore the disputed zone.

Baku calls the oil field Kapaz, while Ashgabat calls it Serdar.

Both sides claim ownership.

In 2008, the two countries' leaders signed an agreement calling for the two Caspian littoral states to refrain from exploratory or extraction activities in the area until the dispute is resolved.

All the Caspian states agreed that disputed waters would not be entered. Now Turkmenistan enters the waters and talk about Azeri provocation? Come on dude, Turkmenistan's president has personal issues with Aliyev. Read wikileaks about it.

Hey, Jefferson, how is life in Detroit? I heard the economy is booming and people from other places are just fighting with each other in order to get a place to live in this city of US renaissance :-)).

Aha, and just a year ago maybe I remember reading that both - Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan - were united in their fervent desire to unite their forces and jointly take part in the construction of the Nabucco pipeline that was supposed to liberate the EU, Turkmenistan AND Azerbaijan from the Russian gas "blackmail".
And now look what happened: the Nabucco pipeline died quietly a couple of months ago, the BP Corp (that was one of the driving forces behind of the idea of constructing Nabucco) is just so desperate to strike any kind of deal the with Russian Rosneft to take part in developing the Russian Arctic oil deposits (if Putin allows them, of course :-) that it's ready to even sell its stake in the TNK-BP and on the top of all that Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are - again - fighting around the Caspian oil fields.
The US and EU have here as usual implemented their policy line of sidelining Russia and imposing themselves as uncontested leaders in the most successful manner :-). Congratulations, guys :-))!

Forget it! U.S. and EU can never impose in Caucasus nor the Caspian sea. Azerbaijan is trouble maker and should be subdued before causes serious headaches for the West.
