Sixty Turkmen students majoring in international relations and international law have completed training the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe hopes will help strengthen the Central Asian former Soviet republic's connections with the outside world.
The students, along with instructors at the Turkmen Foreign Ministry's Institute of International Relations, received training from the OSCE's office in Ashgabat.
The OSCE said in a statement issued on September 19 that the group learned about the Organization's history, principles and values, as well as its security commitments and their implementation.
Christopher Hornek, project coordinator of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, said he hoped the course would contribute to future Turkmen diplomats' "efforts aimed at further enhancing Turkmenistan's involvement in international organizations."
Turkmenistan has taken gradual step to decrease its isolation since the death in 2006 of longtime President Saparmurat Niyazov.
