Two Killed, Some 14 Hurt In Northwest Pakistan Suicide Bombing

Two people were killed and some 14 others wounded on September 1 when a suicide bomber blew up his car in northwestern Pakistan.

Police signaled a suspect vehicle to stop and opened fire when the driver ignored the instruction.

Local police chief Gul Wali Khan said the blast, at a check post near a police station in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, also damaged 12 shops and seven houses.

The incident happened as Pakistan celebrated the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

More than 4,550 people have been killed in suicide attacks and bomb explosions in Pakistan during the last four years, many of them carried out by the Taliban and other Al-Qaeda-linked Islamist extremists.
