Germany has again offered to provide medical treatment in Berlin for Ukraine's jailed former prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko.

After talks with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on June 21, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle told journalists in the Ukrainian capital that Berlin and Kyiv "are working" on the issue and "will continue to work on this."

A group of German physicians arrived at a clinic in Ukraine's eastern city of Kharkiv to reexamine Tymoshenko.

She has been treated at the clinic for back pain since May 2012.

Tymoshenko was sentenced to seven years in prison in October 2011 for abuse of office related to a 2009 gas deal with Russia.

Tymoshenko is also due to be tried on tax evasion and embezzlement charges. She denies any wrongdoing and says her jailing was politically motivated.

Based on reporting by Unian and AFP

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
