U.K. Submariner Jailed For Trying To Pass Secrets To Russia

London's Central Criminal Court has ordered a British Royal Navy submariner to be imprisoned for eight years after he was convicted of attempting to pass military secrets to people he believed were Russian agents.

On December 12, the court said 30-year-old Petty Officer Edward Devenney, from Northern Ireland, offered to pass on encryption codes and sailing dates for British submarines to underground MI5 agents posing as Russian spies.

Reports said Devenney was not seeking financial gain but revenge for what he believed was the navy's unfair treatment of him.
