A Ukrainian judge has postponed for one week the next sessions in the tax evasion trial of jailed former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

The judge in the eastern city of Kharkiv said that the trial cannot proceed if Tymoshenko is not present in the court and scheduled the next hearing for July 31.

Tymoshenko has refused to attend the trial, citing health concerns and demanding to consult with German doctors.

She has been receiving treatment for back pain in a state-run hospital.

Tymoshenko is serving a seven-year sentence on abuse of power charges allegedly committed when she was prime minister.

The current trial concerns allegations that Tymoshenko evaded millions of U.S. dollars in taxes in connection with a private energy company she headed in the 1990s.
