U.S. Air Strikes Hit Islamic State Militants, Khorasan Group

The U.S. Central Command has said that warplanes launched fresh attacks on positions of the Islamic State (IS) militant group and also the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Khorasan group in Syria.

The Central Command statement on November 19 said five air strikes were carried out against IS militants near the contested city of Kobani since November 17.

The statement said one strike was launched against a storage facility of the Khorasan group in northwest Syria.

Central Command also said 24 air strikes were carried out since November 17 against IS militants in Iraq, 13 near Kirkuk and seven near Mosul.

Three other attacks hit targets near Baiji, where Iraqi forces recently drove out IS militants, recapturing the city and relieving troops that had been defending the nearby oil refinery for months.

The last attack hit an IS target near Fallujah.
