The U.S. Army bus where the attack took place in Frankfurt last March.

U.S. federal prosecutors in New York City have filed murder charges against a Kosovo ethnic Albanian man accused of shooting dead two U.S. Air Force personnel and wounding two others at Frankfurt airport in Germany.

In a statement, prosecutors said Arid Uka, 21, approached a bus on March 2 at the airport and asked in English if it was carrying Americans.

The statement says Uka then began firing a pistol at the U.S. personnel while repeating aloud "an Arabic expression that means, 'God is great.'"

U.S. prosecutors have charged him with murder, attempted murder and firearms counts.

It was not immediately clear if Uka will be extradited from Germany to face charges in the U.S. He has been charged with similar crimes in Germany.

German investigators say Uka has indicated he carried out the attack as revenge for the U.S. mission in Afghanistan.

But investigators say they have found no links between him and any terrorist organization.
