Popular Uzbek TV Anchor Allegedly Killed


A well-known television anchor in Uzbekistan has been allegedly killed, according to a colleague.

Muslimbek Yuldashev, who is also a popular TV presenter, said on his Facebook page that Rakhmatilla Mirzaiev was killed on March 2 by "unknown assailants."

Authorities and Mirzaiev's employers have yet to confirm his death.

The 60-year-old Mirzaiev worked for Uzbek state TV for four decades.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
