Stamp Of Disapproval

"This Site Is Blocked in Uzbekistan." In an act of Internet solidarity, several Central Asian websites are "stamping" their websites with a special emblem that contains those words.

The protest action is in response to the increasingly restricted access in Uzbekistan to independent websites. Websites such as fergana.ru, uznews.net, and the homepage of RFE/RL's Uzbek Service have been blocked for years.

The Paris-based media watchdog Reporters Without Borders lists Uzbekistan -- along with Myanmar, North Korea, and Turkmenistan -- on its list of the world's greatest "Internet Enemies."
