Blast In Iraqi Town Kills 10

15 July 2004 -- A car bomb exploded near police and government buildings in the western Iraqi city of Al-Hadithah today, killing 10 people and wounding some 30 others.

An Interior Ministry spokesman, Colonel Adnan Abd al-Rahman, says the attack appeared to target the main police station. Three officers were among the dead.

A police spokesman in Karbala, Rahman Mshawi, meanwhile, says another car bomb exploded 5 kilometers west of the city, killing two people in the car.

North of Baghdad, firefighters are trying to put out a fire on an oil pipeline near Kirkuk. The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but insurgents have frequently attacked the country's oil and gas pipelines.

In southern Iraq, a border-police spokesman, Brigadier General Ali al-Musawi, said saboteurs have drilled holes into a key pipeline 20 kilometers southwest of Al-Basrah. It was not clear if oil exports have been affected.
