At Least 11 Dead In Iraqi Fighting


27 September 2004 -- At least 11 people, some of them civilians, have been killed today in multiple clashes and attacks in Iraq.

The violence occurred in the northern town of Mosul, in Baquba, and in Baghdad's Al-Sadr City.

Meanwhile, on the international diplomatic scene, French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier today said that he thinks that any international conference on the Iraq conflict should deal with the question of whether U.S.-led forces should leave the country.

Also today, Jordan's King Abdullah said Jordanian intelligence officials are working with Italian officials to locate two Italian women who were taken hostage in Iraq.

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell yesterday said that the insurgency in Iraq is getting worse, and that U.S. forces will increase efforts to defeat militants who are determined to disrupt the democratic process in Iraq.
