Baghdad Car Bomb Targets Children


A father mourns his son, who was killed in the 13 July blast that left at least 27 dead and 70 injured 13 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Iraq's Interior Ministry says a suicide car bomber killed 25 Iraqis -- most of them children -- and one U.S. soldier in southern Baghdad today.

The Ministry says that 25 other people were wounded in the attack. The U.S. military says three U.S. troops are among the wounded.

The bomber exploded his vehicle near a crowd of children that gathered around U.S. military vehicles as troops were handing out candy.

Also today, Deutsche Presse Agentur reports that a suicide bomber yesterday killed two civilians and wounded several others at a Sunni mosque northeast of Baghdad.
