Putin, Schroeder To Discuss Baltic Pipeline


8 September 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder will discuss bilateral relations and other issues later today in Berlin.

Putin and Schroeder are due to sign an agreement on building a gas pipeline running under the Baltic Sea that would ship Russian gas to Germany for sale in Western Europe.

ITAR-TASS notes that Putin will also meet with Angela Merkel, Schroeder's challenger in Germany's upcoming federal elections later this month.
