Ukrainian PM Holds First Cabinet Meeting

Yuriy Yekhanurov (file photo) 1 October 2005 -- Ukraine's new Prime Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov presided today over his first cabinet meeting, promising his government's work will be less high-profile but just as transparent.

Yekhanurov, who replaced Yuliya Tymoshenko at the post, signaled an end to the on-camera briefings that had marked his predecessor's seven months in office.

He said that the media will be provided with regular information about his government's work.

At the cabinet meeting, Yekhanurov also expressed satisfaction with his Friday visit to Moscow. He noted that the latest contacts between officials of the two countries have allowed Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin to determine the main directions of work to remove all the obstructions in bilateral relations.
