Tajik Police Detained Over Activist's Death


(RFE/RL) DUSHANBE, May 10, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- The prosecutor's office in Dushanbe says three Tajik police officers have been taken into custody in connection with the death in custody of an opposition party activist.


The three officers had detained 45-year-old Sadullo Marufov, a member of the Islamic Rebirth Party, on May 3 for interrogation.


They later claimed that Marufov killed himself by jumping from the third floor of the police station.
