Belarusian Activist Jailed For Five Months

Syarhey Lyashkevich being escorted to court on May 25 (Bymedia.net) May 29, 2006 -- A Belarusian court jailed an opposition organizer for five months today on charges of conspiring to create disorder in the republic.

Syarhey Lyashkevich was arrested on March 14, five days before elections in which President Alyaksandr Lukashenka was reelected to a third term.

Opposition politicians say Lyashkevich was accused of instructing activists how to behave in the case of street demonstrations.
