United States Sends More Troops To Iraq


U.S. troops in Iraq (file photo) (CTK) May 30, 2006 -- The U.S. military has deployed about 1,500 extra troops to Iraq to back up U.S. and Iraqi forces trying to restore order in the western province of Al-Anbar.


The Pentagon said today the additional troops were called in by General George Casey, the top U.S. commander in Iraq.


The new contingent, comprising two armored battalions, had been stationed in Kuwait.


There are about 130,000 American troops in Iraq.
