Gunmen Kidnap At Least 26 In Baghdad


In a similar incident, in early June, 50 passengers were seized from this bus (epa) July 31, 2006 -- Gunmen wearing military uniforms today kidnapped at least 26 employees and customers from a mobile-phone store in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.


Police say the kidnappers bundled their hostages into a convoy of four-wheel-drive cars and drove away in a matter of minutes.


The identity of the gunmen is not known.


The incident is the latest in a series of mass kidnappings in Baghdad.


In other developments, a senior intelligence officer was shot dead as he drove in western Baghdad.


Baghdad police also found the bodies of two unidentified men in the northeast of the city. Both had been shot in the head and chest.
