Ceausescu's Daughter Dies Aged 56

(RFE/RL) November 21, 2006 -- The daughter of late Romanian communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, Zoe, has died of cancer at the age of 56.

A family lawyer said she died at her home on November 20.

Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu were shot by firing squad after a hasty trial in December 1989. Zoe's younger brother Nicu, a notorious playboy, died in Vienna in 1996 of cirrhosis of the liver.

Valentin, the last survivor of Ceausescu's three children, has kept a low profile since 1989.
