Germany 'Very Worried' By Belarusian Opposition Leader's Health

Alyaksandr Kazulin, jailed leader of the opposition Hramada Social Democrat Party (file photo) (epa) November 17, 2006 -- The German government today said it is "very worried" about the health of the opposition politician Alyaksandr Kazulin, who is on a hunger strike in prison, and called for Kazulin's immediate release.

Kazulin was jailed for five and a half years in July for organizing a protest against the reelection of President Alyaksandr Lukashenka in March.

Opposition activist Syarhey Skrabets, who was recently released from prison, said Kazulin's health had seriously declined since he went on a hunger strike four weeks ago.
