November 16, 2006 -- Georgian parliament speaker Nino Burjanadze today slammed the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) as "ineffective."
Addressing a session of the CIS Parliamentary Assembly in St. Petersburg, Burjanadze accused the grouping of former Soviet republics of failing to respond to the latest crisis in relations between Georgia and Russia.
She said Russian-led CIS peacekeepers have only helped "further freeze" the so-called frozen post-Soviet conflicts.
