Kosovo Prepared To Declare Independence Unilaterally

Agim Ceku (file photo) (epa) November 10, 2006 -- The prime minister of Serbia's Kosovo province, Agim Ceku, has said Kosovo could unilaterally declare independence if talks with Belgrade fail to answer the demands of its ethnic-Albanian majority.

Ceku said on November 9 that this is not a threat, but a possibility.

He also said Kosovo would prefer to gain independence through a widely supported UN Security Council resolution.

Negotiations on the future status of the UN-administered province began in February under the auspices of the UN.
