Kyrgyz President Replaces Renegade Regional Governor


Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev (file photo) (RFE/RL) November 13, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- A statement posted on the Kyrgyz president's website says President Kurmanbek Bakiev today appointed Kubanychbek Syydanov as the new governor of Chui region, the administrative entity that comprises the city of Bishkek.


Syydanov replaces Turgunbek Kulmurzaev, who was dismissed on November 8. Kulmurzaev last week joined opposition street protests and called upon Bakiev to resign.
