Spain To Send More Troops To Afghanistan


Spanish troops prepare to leave for Afghanistan in February (file photo) (epa) April 26, 2006 - Spanish Defense Minister Jose Antonio Alonso said today that Madrid plans to reinforce its military presence in Afghanistan for security reasons.


Alonso, who was visiting the Afghan city of Herat, did not specify how many extra troops will be deployed. Spain currently has a contingent of 540 soldiers serving in Afghanistan.
