Russia Reaffirms 'Solidarity' With Serbia On Kosovo

Lavrov in May warned world powers not to decide the fate of Kosovo on their own (AFP) June 6, 2007 -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says Russia maintains "firm solidarity" with Serbia over the future of Kosovo.

Lavrov made the remark in Moscow before talks with Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic.

Russia has strongly opposed a UN plan to grant the Serbian province internationally supervised independence, and has called for more talks between Belgrade and Kosovo's majority Albanians.

Lavrov said President Vladimir Putin is due to meet Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica at an economic forum starting on June 8 in St. Petersburg.
