Afghanistan, Tajikistan To Build Hydro-Power Plant


Tajik President Emomali Rahmon (file photo) (epa) August 4, 2007 -- The press service of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon says Tajikistan and Afghanistan will jointly build a 1,000-megawatt hydro-power plant on the Pyandzh river.


The announcement came after talks between Rahmon and Afghan Energy Minister Mohammad Ismail Khan, who arrived in Tajikistan on August 3.


The project is expected to be funded by the Asian Development Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the World Bank, and donor nations involved in Afghanistan's reconstruction.
