German Woman Abducted In Kabul Pleads For Release

August 19, 2007 -- A German woman aid worker, abducted in Kabul on August 18, appeared in a video today asking Berlin to use every effort to gain her freedom.

She read from a note in Dari saying she is fine and asked Germany to "urgently help and cooperate for my release."

The video was aired by the private Afghan television station Tolo and displayed an identity card that read Christina Barbara Meier.

A man with his face covered, appeared on the video demanding the release of unnamed prisoners held by the Afghan government.

Tolo did not say when the video was received.
