Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner jumped from a capsule carried by a balloon some 39 kilometers above the Earth's surface on October 14, landing safely in the southwestern U.S. state of New Mexico. During his freefall into the Earth's atmosphere, he reached a top speed of 1,342 kph, becoming the first skydiver to break the sound barrier. Baumgartner also broke records for the highest-altitude manned balloon flight and the highest-altitude skydive. (Reuters)
