In the Russian republic of Tatarstan, a majority of the population is Muslim -- including a few ethnic Russians who have chosen to convert to Islam. The decision to change religions demands perseverance in the face of doubts from Christians and Muslims alike. But for converts like Sabira and Bogdan, Islam offers not only a new faith, but a new way of life. (Produced by Aleksandr Kulygin)

Russia
with the exception of caucasus
is a natural example of coexistence between Christians and Muslims .

This because Russians Muslims are all considered
as part of the same cultural tradition of Russian .
and not a foreign body .

However,
very often public tends to overestimate number of Russian Muslims
that are near 15%

There is another kind of "convert" in Russia and throughout the former republics: the person who was born into a non-practicing Muslim family. Many of these young people are more active in the faith than their parents or grandparents were during Soviet times.
